10 Common characteristics of a toxic work environment!
It is a fact that some business areas are thriving and prospering, while others are being overwhelmed, losing staff and therefore income. And the difference between these places is not the factor of “luck” but the healthy environment.
Research has shown that these spaces, unlike successful workplaces, operate with a toxicity that affects employees, from management down to the last employee. And this toxicity has specific characteristics, which are the following:
- Poor communication and lack of trust.
- Aggressive behaviour/bullying/gossip.
- Lack of equality and fairness, discrimination in pay and policies.
- Treating employees as objects or property.
- Increased absenteeism due to sickness, low employee satisfaction.
- Dictatorial management that ignores workers’ feedback.
- Minimal interaction between management and employees.
- Avoidance of information exchange between team members, due to “internal competition” and rivalry.
- A workaholic culture that prevents a healthy work/life balance.
- Unachievable deadlines and excessive workload
So if we want to spread and succeed in our workplace, we need to be vigilant guardians, so that we identify and eliminate each of these traits in their infancy!
And only then can a place thrive and prosper!
