Have you ever happened to you doubt yourself; Wondering whether you know your subject well even if you have been working on it for years? Don’t worry, you’re not alone! Even the most famous celebrities go through it! In particular, many writers, artists and scientists have at times reported feeling a lot of self-doubt.
Some examples:
“Am I good enough?” had to get past that question” – Michelle Obama
“Every time I start working on a new film, I’m afraid I’m going to get fired” – Penelope Cruz
“Every time I write a book I think oh, now they’re going to learn it. I fooled them all and they will understand me” – Maya Angelou
And the same list could include people like Leonardo da Vinci, Vincent van Gogh, George Washington and many more!
As a Life Coach I work with owners of start-ups and start-up companies. These people feel very passionate about their work.
And they have a clear vision for the future. But there is a paradox. At the same time, they are the ones who doubt more than anyone else whether there is any point to their effort and whether their team sees it. They doubt whether their idea is viable and whether they can succeed. (Self-doubt)
Why do we doubt ourselves so much?
There are many “whys” that cause self-doubt…
- We take our knowledge for granted and that everyone knows what we know.
- We believe that in order to stand out we have to go beyond ourselves, because that’s how we have achieved things in the past.
- We link our success to random factors.
- We think that if something is easy for us, it’s no big deal.
- We believe that others have high expectations of us. And if we don’t fulfill them, they will think we are crooks.
Whatever your “why” is,
recognition and acceptance
of that thought is the first step.
The first step to increasing your self-awareness and combating any limiting beliefs.
Do you realize your doubts?
With love,
Natalia
