The most common makeup mistakes! (and how to fix them)

From the first moment we pick up an eye pencil in adolescence, (or our mum’s pre-toddler lipstick), we start to develop make-up habits that we carry with us for the rest of our lives. But often, some of the practices we have incorporated into our routine are neither correct nor healthy and end up having the opposite effect from the desired result. Some of these habits need to be redefined to suit our skin’s needs, contribute to its good health and flatter our features as they change.

So, I’ll analyze the most common makeup mistakes we make, and how they can be corrected!

We do not prepare our skin well.

The first step when you start your makeup routine is putting on foundation right? Wrong! The most important step before anything else, is to prepare the skin properly so that later the makeup looks flawless. Proper preparation for a start means very good cleaning. Deep cleanse your face and apply a lotion. Apply your moisturizer and when it’s absorbed, use a Primer. Then and only then, is your skin ready to start accepting makeup products. This procedure will do wonders for the final appearance of your skin and will help your skin stay glowing throughout the day.

We don’t change the type of Foundation we use as we get older.

Maybe while you were in your teens or 20-something years, when your skin is oily and maybe you have acne, you had to settle for a covering matte product for your face. However, as we grow and evolve, so should our makeup. A liquid sheer product with a satin finish will give a fresher look to the skin and make it look more relaxed.

We place our makeup in bad lighting

Have you ever had a theoretically great makeup application in your bathroom and when you go out into the world and look at yourself, you have a mini stroke? If the answer is “yes”, then let me tell you that it has happened to all of us! The best possible lighting to do on your makeup is natural. Prefer to paint near a window with sunlight as much as possible. If on the other hand this is not an option, make sure the room you do your makeup in has white bright light and not yellow.

We use a large amount of concealer.

Maybe it’s the fact that you work long hours. maybe on the other hand you thought about going out for a drink yesterday (now that you can again) and it ended up being four. Maybe he’s just always there! Whatever the reason, the dark circles exist and they make life difficult for us all the time. However, picking up a concealer and using it the wrong way is one of the biggest makeup faux pas! Too much, a heavy texture or a much lighter shade will have the effect of making fine lines look more pronounced and your eyes look even more tired. Prefer to use liquid products and apply them with a brush. Take a small amount in your brush and start working the product on the darkest part of the eye which is between the inner corner of the eye and the nose bone. Continue fading down and out. If necessary, add more locally, but never overdo it.

Forgetting to prepare the lips

You’ve done the perfect skin, you’ve done a stunning eye makeup and it’s lip time. You grab the outline to get started and realize you’re dealing with chapping and dehydration. So to avoid such unpleasant surprises before you start your make-up, apply a large amount of moisturising lip balm to your lips, which you will remove when it’s time to paint them at the end. This way you will have hydrated and smooth lips that will be perfectly highlighted by the lipstick you choose.

Apply intense mascara on the lower lashes.

Mascara is always the magic touch that gives intensity to your look. However, using the same amount on the lower lashes as on the upper lashes is not the best choice. By putting so much emphasis on the underside of the eye, you have the fear of making your eye look downward as well as unintentionally emphasizing the fine lines of the eye. Prefer to give the most intensity to the outer lashes of the upper eyelid. As for the bottoms, limit yourself to applying a light layer of mascara or none at all if the rest of your makeup is very natural.

We do not put on blush

Skipping blush from your routine is a big minus. When you’ve applied foundation or a concealer powder to your skin, you’ve clearly discolored any annoying conditions that are present, such as pimples, blood vessels or blemishes. But, along with all this, you have also discoloured the natural tones that give freshness and health to the face and turned it into a white canvas. Blush as a product is designed to do just that. To bring back those shades and make the skin look rosy and youthful.
