Contouring… old-fashioned or not?

What is Contouring?

We all know, don’t we?
But do we know it right?
The contouring or otherwise shading is the structure of the face.

Let’s explain it a little better!

For starters, the first step in makeup is the use of make up (base).
After make up, our face looks like a clean canvas, where the shadows are the “life” in our “flat” face.

What do we mean by that?
First of all our face naturally has some dark and some light areas, the so-called natural shadows,

depending on our features and how the light is diffused on them!
We notice that after applying the make up, the shadows are not present, so here it is the turn of contouring
to give shape to our little faces again!
More specifically, it is usually done with cool shades of brown (but in my humble opinion it is done with all shades of brown).

The mistakes and ways to use contouring correctly

So most women use it wrong either by making it intense enough or using the wrong shade
for our colour type (skin colour).
There are also two ways to achieve this, either with a creamy product or a powder product,
depending on the needs of the skin and the result we want to give!
Indeed the misplacement and poor to non-existent blending (we’ll talk about that another time),
are what make contouring “old-fashioned”.

So many people are confused by all the information and think that contour is something unnatural and heavy for our skin. We notice that this may be due to the wrong examples and the exaggerations that we often see in girls on the street.
All the best for you girls!

Bronzing the new contouring?

With minimal amounts and prudence we can naturally warm up our face by doing the so-called bronzing.
Bronzing is something like contouring , more natural and is usually achieved with one product instead of two.
How do we do it?
With a powder 1 to 2 tones darker than our skin.

I wonder if contouring is outdated or is it the abuse and misuse in general that makes it so wrong?
So the only certainty is that it has been in our everyday life for years and is here to stay,
to give dimension but also to sculpt our face.
Natural or intense with variations or not is up to us!
So what do you think?
Would you part with it?

Many kisses,
Eleni Gioca!
