Aveda announces B Corp certification

Aveda announces B Corp certification, reinforcing its 40+ year commitment to caring for the planet.

Aveda, a global sustainability leader and Vegan hair care brand, joins the business
that set high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and responsibility.

Aveda Corporation, the company behind the high-performance, vegan and Leaping Bunny-approved hair care brand with a mission to care for the world we live in, has announced that it is now a certified B Corporation
“B Corp” business, recognizing and further deepening its decades-long commitment to
social and environmental responsibility.

Achieving B Corp certification from the non-profit B Lab confirms Aveda’ s firm commitment and the existence of a
responsibility and transparency in all its business activities, always in line with its mission.
With B Lab’s input, Aveda underwent a rigorous but extensive review of its overall environmental and social impact and was assessed across five pillars: Governance, Employees, Community, Environment and Consumers,
and achieved an overall impact score of 89.6, far exceeding the 50.9
the average of the companies submitted to the assessment.
Aveda will maintain high standards of accountability by undergoing a recertification process every three years
to update its impact assessment and maintain its status as a B Corp.

Contribution of Aveda as a B Corp

Aveda ‘s internal holistic and quantitative environmental rating contributed to Aveda ‘s B Corp certification,
known as the Green Score, such as the comprehensive benefits offered to employees, including
voluntary leave and subsidised parental leave, as well as Aveda ‘s corporate culture that emphasises health
and the well-being of workers.
More information on Aveda ‘s overall B Impact Score can be found on the Aveda website.

In addition to the B Corp certification, Aveda became a public benefit corporation, which recognizes that the business works,
both for profit and therefore for the production of public benefit and by law must take into account
the impact of its decisions on the parties concerned.

Statements

“A pioneer in sustainability since Aveda’s founding in 1978, achieving B Corp certification confirms, through a highly
rigorous process that Aveda adheres to the highest levels of social and environmental performance,” said Melissa Chelminiak, Aveda’s Director of Mission Partnerships and Engagement. “Aveda is proud to join a community of like-minded organizations that are advancing a global movement of business as a force for good.”

Lindsey Wilson, Associate Director of Community Growth at B Lab, said: “B Lab is one of Europe’s largest institutions: “Aveda has an outstanding reputation for its decades-long commitment to maintaining a mission-driven business and I am thrilled to welcome the company to our community of over 5,000 B Corps around the world. B Corp’s rigorous and extensive process takes careful consideration of a company’s impact on people and the planet. I congratulate Aveda Corporation on its certification and look forward to supporting the brand in its ongoing mission to care for the world we live in.”

Creating a more responsible future

In keeping with Aveda’s mission since its inception to care for the world we live in, the brand is pioneering
for decades on environmental responsibility in the beauty sector, with priorities in the following six areas: Safe beauty, responsible sourcing, responsible packaging, vegan formulas, planet-conscious manufacturing, protecting and providing clean water to people in need in Aveda’s supplier communities
but also in communities around the world.

Aveda carries out its mission at its 58-acre headquarters facility and is certified
from the National Wildlife Federation in Minnesota, with bee colonies, a vegetable garden curated by workers,
electric vehicle charging stations and kilometres of running trails.
The main office building emphasizes sustainability: it is powered by solar and wind energy, carpeted with carpets
made from recycled fibres, has composting and recycling bins throughout the building and a bio-café.
