First day of school for thousands of students across the country. And Google has prepared a doodle for the start of the new school year.
The first day of school in Greece is September 11th. Unless it falls on a weekend, in which case it’s moved a few days later, like this year.
See today’s Google doodle:
The school year usually starts in August or September in the Northern Hemisphere and in January or February in the Southern Hemisphere, but this varies from country to country.
- For example, in Europe, the school year starts at the beginning of September in Belgium, Bulgaria, Estonia, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Slovenia, Lithuania, Latvia, France and Slovenia.
- In the United States, education policy is mostly set at the local level, so there is no specific day on which schools start.
- In Asia, the school year usually starts in June in the Philippines and India, in Singapore in January and in Japan in April, when the cherry trees bloom.
- In Australia and New Zealand, schools usually open in January.
- In Africa – for example in Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt – classes start around mid-September.
First day at school: How students and teachers will arrive in classrooms
- Students will arrive at school with a vaccination certificate (for students 12 years and older). Or a certificate of past illness (last six months). Or a statement of a negative self-diagnostic (pg) test. It will take place twice a week (Tuesday and Friday), up to 24 hours before school.
- Teachers with a vaccination certificate or a certificate of past coronavirus infection (last semester). Or a certificate of a negative laboratory test. It should also be held twice a week (Tuesday and Friday) at the employee’s responsibility and expense.
What happens if a confirmed case of COVID-19 is detected:
- is removed from school and remains in isolation for at least 10 days, refraining from all extracurricular activities and from any other movement or contact with people outside the home environment.
- return to the school after at least 10 days from the onset of symptoms AND three 24-hour periods after complete resolution of fever (without taking antipyretics) AND improvement of other symptoms. A medical certificate is not required for returning to school.
Teachers with a vaccination certificate or a certificate of past coronavirus infection (last semester) or a negative laboratory test certificate, which should also be carried out twice a week (Tuesday and Friday) at the employee’s responsibility and cost.
