Surely somewhere in the course of your life, you have thought “oh I wish my eyes were a little lighter – a little greener – a little more honey – a little more blue” and so on.Is it possible to achieve this through makeup, without the use of contact lenses? Well, I’m here to tell you that yes, it is.!

Clearly we cannot aim for dramatic change. Eyes that are chestnut, for example, will not turn blue. But they can take different shades, according to the colours that surround them. In essence, the shade we are aiming for should already exist to a certain extent in the shades of the eye.

By playing with the basic principles of chromatology, we can manipulate the natural colour and make it look like something different by using contrasts.

But let’s start from the beginning.

To start, you should carefully observe the iris of your eye. When you do, you’ll find that it doesn’t have a single color, but several together that give a final effect. For example, eyes that look honey, very often consist of dark green and brown shades. So in case you want to make your eyes that look honey, to make them look greener, the way is to use the opposite colour of the green near the eye frame (shadow, blush, lipstick, hair colour, clothing), in order to create a contrast and make the green of the iris more visible.

And what is the opposite of green?

The basic contrasts are therefore as follows

Green has the opposite of red.

(have you seen a redhead with green eyes? It is visible at the kilometer)

The blue is the opposite of orange

(as well as ginger blue eye)

And the yellow is the opposite of purple.

The rule of thumb is when the opposite colours are close together, they accentuate each other.

Now you might be a little surprised, as putting a red shadow around your eyes might seem strange. Perhaps the result will look tired you will think. So somewhere here, I should mention that you don’t have to use the opposite colour in its pure form. You can work on some shade of it. That is, to make your eyes more intense green you can use a warm chocolate to make a light smokey eye, a bordeaux lipstick, or even a soft pink shadow. These are all versions of red after all. Clearly, however, the more intense the contrast you create, the more intense your effect will be.

In the case of blue eyes, regarding orange, you can play with summer bronze or soft peach!

In addition, when you want your eyes to look lighter than they actually are, the way to do this is to create a contrast again, this time with intensity.

Dark honey eyes that have as makeup an all-black smokey, or a black intense liner, will inevitably look lighter. Contrast works its miracle again. You are actually framing a dark colour with an even darker one, creating the illusion that the former is much lighter than it actually is.

So you can play with your eyes and change the way they look, with this simple trick, without the use of contact lenses!

Good creations!
