Fashion and creativity in Africa and South Korea will be showcased at the V&A Museum in London. It will be his first major exhibition focusing on menswear.
The exhibition “Fashioning Masculinities.
The Art of Menswear” will be followed by “Africa Fashion” which was announced in January and later “Hallyu!
The Korean Wave”.
The menswear exhibition “Fashioning Masculinities“
The Art of Menswear” will run from 19 March 2022 to 6 November 2022.
It will celebrate “the power, art and diversity of men’s clothing and appearance”.
The exhibition will highlight the “unprecedented creativity in men’s fashion” by tracing the way in which men’s clothing has been shaped and reshaped over the centuries. Exploring how designers, tailors and artists, their clients and models, have structured and interpreted masculinity in different periods through clothing.
The exhibition “Fashioning Masculinities” will present the contemporary perspective of legendary designers and emerging creatives .
As well as historical treasures from the V&A’s collections and major loans, Renaissance paintings, sculptures, photographs and films.
In June 2022, more than 250 items will be collected for the “Africa Fashion” exhibition. All are drawn from the personal archives of contemporary African fashion designers and will be displayed alongside textiles and photographs from the V&A’s collection.
The aim is to highlight the “irresistible creativity, resourcefulness and lasting global impact of contemporary African fashion designers”.
It will also explore how music and visual arts are a key part of Africa’s cultural renaissance.
The exhibition “Hallyu!
The Korean Wave” will showcase South Korea’s creative contributions to film, theatre, music, beauty and fashion.
It is the first exhibition in London to showcase the “colourful and dynamic pop culture” of South Korea.
The exhibition is organized with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea.
It focuses on the Korean Wave from its rise in the late 1990s to its explosion into a global phenomenon.
