Severe hair loss. How do you report it to your client?

You have stable, long-standing clients and suddenly you realize that your “favorite” client’s hair has a terrible thinning and her hair loss needs to be managed immediately.
How do you say it so it’s not an uncomfortably scary conversation for your client?
Remember that any such conversation about hair health should be positive and certainly based on meaningful solutions. Report the problem, giving clear information about its causes and treatment!!!!

You are the expert, hairexpert and logically due to your experience, experience and of course knowledge, you can see directly – long before your client notices it, or any problem or change – in the thickness, texture, density, or structure of the hair.

The sooner the diagnosis is made, the easier and more effectively the problem will be found, given and solved. Reporting a scalp issue can save your client from a potential problem in her overall health, since hair health comes from the inside out, so you can see what’s going on internally and ultimately be proactive in every aspect of her health, starting early with preventative measures. Behind the superficial problem, you, as the good expert that you are, must see and discover the root of the problem.

Hair loss, thinning and even less healthy hair, we often think that they are located in the scalp, but this is not true, since the hair follicle is sensitive and affected by what is happening in the body and in our body in general.
In such problematic cases, a balance of hormones, immune system, stress, cortisone levels, etc.

In the society and in the days we live in, stress, aging, hormonal changes and of course environmental factors are the main causes of inflammation that disturb the hair follicle and inhibit its growth. Hair changes depending on habits, age and all of the above, whether you are a woman or a man, with the fairer sex experiencing hair loss with much more stress.

What should you look out for, and what should you ask, so that your client trusts you, listening to you, answering you honestly and finally following the treatment options you suggest?

See the following questions.

  1. Do you have time to pamper yourself?
  2. Do you use oils, creams, or any other products on your hair?
  3. How do you dry them? Do you use a hairdryer every day?
  4. Are you a person with more energy in the morning or in the evening? (the normal is to have energy in the morning and slowly decreasing as the hours pass and it gets darker. This may not be the case if there is stress, anxiety or a different schedule e.g. working at night).
  5. What are your eating habits? What do you eat in your everyday life?
  6. Have you noticed a change in the density of your hair? Do you see more hair on the floor, in the bathroom, on your brush?

Try not to be too judgmental and doctor-like, to make your client feel comfortable, put her at ease and encourage her to visit a doctor for a routine blood test if she needs one.
