Morning or Evening: When is exercise most effective?

It’s good to exercise, without seeming obstacles such as time, weather, mood, or whether it’s a Sunday or a holiday. Otherwise we will constantly find excuses to avoid exercise – personally, I don’t really want to. It is better to exercise, even without a routine, than not to exercise at all.

Of course, depending on whether we choose morning or evening hours for our exercise, we can enjoy some different benefits, but also face some different types of difficulties.

Morning gymnastics

If you are willing to exercise in the morning then you will sleep better at night. That’s what a study from Appalachian State University tells us, according to which early morning workouts promise a better night’s sleep. Exercising at 7 or 8 in the morning implies a longer and deeper sleep cycle than exercising in the afternoon or evening. “The better you sleep, the better it is for your body. It increases heart health, reduces stress and anxiety, helps maintain weight and lowers blood pressure. Plus, the more time you spend sleeping, the more time your body needs to recover,” as Dr. Collier, a professor at Appalachian State University, explains. Morning exercise not only helps on a health level, but also on a mental level.

After morning exercise, we feel more refreshed, fresh and ready to meet the demands of work.

Evening gymnastics

If you’re not a morning person at all, you’ll be glad to know that there are many benefits for those who choose to exercise in the evening. The scientific journal “Chronobiology International” has published a study that discusses and analyses the role of the internal body clock in athletic performance.

And the conclusion: Physical and environmental temperatures rise in the late afternoon, therefore enzyme activity and muscle function are increased. In short, you can continue to exercise between 14:00 and 18:00 and not have to get up early in the morning.

Another reason to exercise in the evening is the extra energy you have. Exercising in the evening allows your body to relax after a hard day at work and get rid of any stress built up during the day.

In addition, our body temperature increases in the afternoon and evening, so we are less prone to injury than in the morning. In the morning our body needs a good warm up so that the muscles and joints can adapt to the physical exercise, which is not necessary in the evening.
