Hair transplantation

Hair transplant do and donts

Like good health and youth, most of us take our hair for granted…
Until they leave…
For many people a hair transplant can make a head empty of hair look decent and natural
to restore lost confidence.
But before you make any decision, you should first talk to your doctor about what to expect from surgery.

What is a hair transplant?

Hair transplantation is a type of surgery where it moves hair that you already have to an area of the head
that is without hair or has enough thinning.
Doctors in America have been using this method since 1950, but the techniques have changed in recent years.
Usually the procedure is done in the doctor’s office.
At first you clean the head with special antiseptics and then local anesthesia is applied to the points
where he will remove the graft is necessary.
The doctor will choose which method to use depending on the case.
Surgical strip or ovarian unit extraction.

Procedure

With the first method, the surgeon removes a 6 to 10 inch strip of skin from the back of your head.
They leave it aside and sew the scalp.
This area is covered by the hairs around it.
The surgeon’s team then divides the strip of her removed scalp into 500 to 2000 tiny grafts,
each with a single hair or just a few hairs.
The number and type of graft the patient receives has to do with the type of hair, the quality,
the colour and size of the area where you are having the hair transplant.

With the second method, the surgeon’s team will shave the back of the head,
then the doctor will remove the hair follicles one by one from there.
The area is healed with small dots, which will be covered by your existing hair.
After this point, both hair transplant procedures are the same.
After the preparation of the grafts is done, the surgeon cleans the area where the hair will go and with local anesthesia
creates holes or slits with a scalpel or needle and gently places each graft in one of the holes.
The procedure takes about 4 to 8 hours depending on the number of grafts.
You may need a repeat procedure after a few months if necessary to ensure that the result is complete.

Expectations and recovery

After a hair transplant, the scalp may be sensitive for some time.
You will be given painkillers for several days and antibiotics.
You will have bandages for a few days. You can return to work 2 to 5 days later.
Within two or three weeks the hair will fall out, but you will notice that new hair will grow out.
Most people will see 60% of new hair growth after six to nine months.

In general, hair transplantation has helped many people to get a beautiful appearance
and to a large extent has successful results.

Yours sincerely,
Elizabeth Makri.
