Extraordinary meeting for tougher banning measures!

Today, instead of Friday, the plenary session of the committee of experts on infectious diseases is already meeting to evaluate the bad epidemiological data of the country.
According to early reports, the lockdown continues, with the notices for moves 4 (moving to assist people in need) and 6 (physical exercise or moving with a pet) being tightened! As far as opening retail, catering, hairdressers, barber shops, beauty centres etc… is concerned… not even on the table before 16 March.

On the one hand, there is the serious burden of the epidemiological load, with ICUs being overcrowded and the virus mutations becoming more and more dangerous, with the National Health System worried, and on the other hand, there is the need for us all to return to normality.

Speaking this morning on SKAI television, government spokeswoman Aristotle Peloni referred to the scenarios for imposing a tighter lockdown, such as the one last March, ruling out the possibility of a lockdown. He explained that the country’s productive activities cannot be suspended, adding, however, that the changes in the measures will have to do with travel messages and specifically with code 6, which will now be allowed to be used only for travel on foot and not by car.

Ms Peloni pointed out that any measures decided will come into force from tomorrow, Thursday, as there is no reason for delay. He also stressed that the government’s priority is the opening of retail and schools.

Weekends, Curfew after 9:00 in the evening and not at 6:00.
And one positive thing that is being discussed at the moment, since it seems that this restriction has not had a positive effect, is the reintroduction of traffic from 6:00 in the afternoon to 9:00 in the evening and on weekends. The pressure to get everyone to catch up with their jobs within this restriction and be home by 6pm seems to have created further problems of overcrowding in supermarkets, pharmacies and parks!

According to the Prime Minister, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, if the lockdown had not happened, things would have been much worse. Specifically, the Prime Minister, during his visit to the “Sotiria” hospital, referred to the necessary yesterday’s emergency meeting at the Maximos Mansion where the new measures to be implemented in order to limit the spread of the coronavirus were discussed, calling on the people to be patient.

The expert meeting is currently being held and we will have the official announcements of the new measures today at 6:00 pm.
