13 Things You Didn’t Know About the Makeup World

1. M.A.C. COSMETICS

M.A.C Cosmetics was founded by two men, both named Frank. Frank Toskan, makeup artist and photographer and Frank Angelo, beauty salon owner. That’s Frank and Frank. The reason for the birth of this colossus was the lack of colours and products on the market at that time that “write” well on the lens.

2. The magic lipstick

During the reign of Elizabeth the First in England, there was a belief that the lipstick has magical powers. They thought it could even repel death itself! The Queen attributed healing powers to it and wore it all the time, even when she was ill. When she was now dead, the lipstick on her lips was almost a centimetre thick.

3. The aphorism lipstick

The belief that lipstick possessed magical powers caused anger and reaction in the church and state, which regarded its use as a sinful act. There were often images of demons putting on lipstick, and women would have to mention the use of lipstick in their confessions. The church’s position was that women were using make-up to trick English men into marrying them and should be punished as the use of witchcraft.

4. REVLON

Revlon was founded in 1933 by brothers Charles and Joseph Revson, and a chemist, Charles Lachman, which is the reason for the “L” in the name REVLON.

5. “Cosmos”

The English word “cosmetic” comes from the Greek word“world“.

6. I brought the fish

Fish scales are an ingredient very often found in various iridescent makeup products such as lipsticks and eye shadows.

7. And the beetles

Also, beetle shells are a common ingredient in nail polishes

8. Elizabeth Arden

The first modern beauty salon was opened by Elizabeth Arden in 1910.

9. Max Factor

“Max Factor” is the name of a real person. In fact, it is the name of the Jewish-Polish beautician who founded the company in 1909.

10. Glitter

The world’s first glitter eyeshadow was launched by Too Faced Cosmetics. However, glitter was not a new concept, as it has been used since ancient Egypt.

11. Too Faced Cosmetics

The company’s general manager, Jerrod Blandino, also invented the first gloss that gave volume to the lips and the first 24-hour crease-proof shadow primer.

12. Illamasqua

The word“Illamasqua” is a combination of the words “illusion” and “masquerade“, and comes from Great Britain.

13. The Balmoral Lipstick

In 1952, Queen Elizabeth produced her own shade of lipstick to match her royal seal and called it “The Balmoral Lipstick”. The shade was named after her Scottish cottage.
