In particular, while the hair has a slightly acidic PH, ammonia with an alkaline PH of around 11 helps to open the scales of the hair and allow the dye molecules to penetrate deep into the hair.

That is why it is very important after the dyeing service to wash with acidic shampoo in order to restore the PH balance of the hair.
