A practical gesture of love from the District Association of Hairdressers and Barbers of Nicosia!
The members of the
District Association of Hairdressers and Barbers of Nicosia
, visited the
Nicosia Special School
,
armed with the right tools and with a lot of love for the students who study there!
The school accommodates up to 72 children and ages range from 7, up to 22 years old!
The members of the Association undertook to cut and groom more than 30 children.
This initiative of the District Association of Hairdressers and Barbers of Nicosia was not the first,
have visited other Special Schools and after the first time their decision was to establish it.
The source of this decision was not only the feeling of solidarity and will, but also of need,
for the care of these children, as Nicosia has no specially trained hairdressers.
As a result of this, these children have a fear of public hairdressing salons and do not feel comfortable in these places.
Is the work of the District Association of Hairdressers and Barbers of Nicosiadifficult?
Of course, the work of the District Association of Hairdressers and Barbers of Nicosia was not easy,
as the difficulties they encountered were not limited to the Special School, which is not suitable for such work,
but mainly in the distrust and wariness of these children towards hairdressers.
Which of course, with the help of the children’s teachers, was solved with great success.
and the children enjoyed the pampering that was generously offered to them.
The result of course did justice to both the children and the hairdressers, as apart from the wonderful results,
the children were absolutely delighted and felt great with their new haircuts!
What the members of the District Association of Hairdressers and Barbers of Nicosia received was a huge hug from the children
and so they made an appointment at the same school to offer their services to the children who were absent that day!
But what is a Special School?
Many people misunderstand the term “Special School” and have it in their minds as an asylum or psychiatric annex for People with Special Needs (SEN), or a prison or even a place of detention for SEN, which of course is not the case,
as the Special School is an educational structure where:
It has teachers, scientists and professionals of various disciplines and specialties
(special teachers, psychologists, social workers, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, nurses, etc.),
sets clear educational goals and objectives, develops and follows a structured educational programme,
produces but also utilizes several and various pedagogical means and materials.
The aim of the Special School is for their students to understand their value, to receive necessary knowledge,
to learn the importance of having, but also how to meet their personal needs, to have relationships and friendships with other people
and of course they have a specific educational programme, on which they set their own objectives.
All this of course requires a pleasant and safe school environment.
