“My mentor, my success”… we discussed last week…
We talked about the impetus, the inspiration, the motivation that it gives you.
The Mentor, chosen by you, guides you with his knowledge and his attitude.
The route is difficult. That’s why it is essential to have an experienced person next to you professionally to guide you.
And you, this week, you sent me your own perspective, you sent me your own experience…
That’s why we’re going to look at the other side.
Can a mentor be bad?
Maybe!
Sometimes mentors have nothing useful to offer.
It doesn’t help you.
Why?
Because every person is unique and needs a different approach, support and guidance.
The American Entrepreneur.com lists the three signs that your mentor is not helping you succeed.
1) It doesn’t give you a boost.
If the mentor doesn’t show you the error of your ways.
It doesn’t show you your weaknesses.
It doesn’t push you to improve them.
Either because he is not interested, or because you are at a very good level for him.
2) Gives the same advice to everyone.
He doesn’t see you as a special person.
He’s watching you work. He sees you profession.
People are not “masses”.
They are different personalities with strengths that need to be highlighted and flaws and weaknesses that need to be improved.
3) No time permanently.
If your mentor is constantly “missing” from your daily life, not answering you, it means that somewhere he is not “in the country”.
Your mentor may have more work than he can handle.
He may want to be there, he just may not be able to be there and that for you unfortunately means inadequate. Thank him politely and find someone else.
In this area the “bad guy” is the apathetic one.
In conclusion, mentoring is not a profession.
That is why, as in all human relationships, people either “click” or they don’t “click”.
No problem. We are different.
After all, isn’t that the magic?!
Yours sincerely,
