“My Mentor … my success …”
Hmm… Sounds nice…
But what is this “Mentor” in the first place, guys?
✔️ Magician?
✔️ Elf?
✔️ Teacher?
Let’s start from the beginning…
What is a Mentor?
The word “Mentor” (which you have lost the habit of writing in English, as if we don’t have a proper language) is first found in the Odyssey. Odysseus entrusted the “Mentor” to him at his home when he was leaving for the Trojan War. No matter if the house was full of suitors…
So, is the “mentor” always good?
Definitely not, I’ll tell you and we’ll go see:
So in modern times, when Odysseus is gone, Odysseus is gone…a mentor is an experienced professional who guides and influences the personal development of a colleague through a subjective lens.
What are the characteristics of a good mentor?
- – Certainly credibility and integrity either “convenient” or not…
- – It creates a relationship, a “bond” of cooperation aimed at improvement.
- – Not always pleasant, but certainly interesting.
- – It provides the training to boost people’s self-confidence.
- – It “sees” goals and offers support to achieve them.
- – It presents both opportunities and risks (direct and indirect).
- – Ability to communicate and cooperate.
- – Ability to help and practice.
- – Definitely in the mood to comment and experiment with ways and ideas even if they know the answer beforehand.
- – Motivation to expand the possibilities.
So, “Mentoring” is an interaction, it is a direction of thoughts and knowledge but often with subjective connotations.
How important this makes it in the selection of a Mentor! In the choice of values, in the choice of goals.
Really… after this text, who came to your mind?
I’ll be glad to hear from you, because next week’s text with your trial interaction will be followed up…
I’m waiting to hear from you…
Yours sincerely,
