How do positive declarations work?

According to cognitive neuroscientists, 95 % of brain activity takes place beyond the realm of our conscious awareness. In practice, this means that our everyday experiences are heavily influenced by unconscious beliefs and behaviours. So, if we want to improve our lives, we have to change these unconscious practices. One way to do this is through the use of positive statements, both about ourselves and about life in general.

If we are able to accept that our subconscious is not always allied with what we want for ourselves, we can work to “resolve” any obstacles through the repeated use of positive statements. Here are some ideas on how to create positive statements that will bring you closer to what you want.

First, it is vital that you can notice and observe which current patterns of behaviour are not in your best interests. Second, try to be as clear as possible about the motivations that drive you to make any new changes or adopt new patterns. This is because when we are motivationally oriented, we naturally feel more energized. Keep in mind, of course, that the random repetition of any positive affirmation is not enough to lead to significant changes.

So if you want the positive statements you use about yourself to be successful, you can learn how to construct statements that are favorable to your life. Keep these tips in mind when creating your positive declarations.

1. Positive statements must be spoken aloud and repeated. This is because repetitive speech enhances our learning processes and increases the likelihood that our subconscious mind will actually hear our request.

2. Always use present tense when repeating positive statements. The subconscious mind thinks simplistically and lives in the now. It is difficult for him to understand concepts such as “soon” or “later”. The same applies to abstract adjectives, such as, for example, “better” etc. So keep your positive statements as simple as possible.

3. Avoid using negative forms in your positive statements. For example, if your positive statement is: “I am no longer sick”, your subconscious mind may focus on the negative molecule and be directed towards the idea of getting sick!

4. Create positive statements that focus on the solution rather than the problem. A statement such as: “I am done with toxic relationships” would probably not have the desired effect, because instead of focusing on healthy relationships, it is geared towards “unhealthy” ones. Therefore, your confirmation should indicate positive experiences, such as: “I am building healthy and balanced relationships.”

5. Create positive statements that are specific, simple and direct. Your subconscious knows how to achieve what you want, but it needs direction and guidance. So repeat clearly and regularly, “I am healthy and happy”! This is a simple and clear positive statement.
