It’s finally summer, we are coming out of the quarantine and with an obviously uplifted and optimistic mood, after nine months of bans, it’s time to think about where to stop, of course always ..still with caution!!

Our Greece is the best destination… this is what the English daily newspaper, The Daily Telegraph, says in a text that suggests 15 Greek islands for this year’s summer holidays. I was proud to read the author of the article, Mr Oliver Smith, saying that ‘a holiday on the Greek islands is like a tonic after a long winter. Who could turn down a safe week or two of sunshine and delicious food served in seaside tavernas?” And he’s absolutely right. Which of our islands do you think is ideal for the best summer holiday?

According to the Daily telegraph article, if you are the type of person who never leaves the beaches on your holidays, the ideal island for you is Zakynthos, since it combines adventure, walks, the famous shipwreck, nature, sea… well read sea! If you just love to sit on the beach, visit Laganas, Tsilivi, Argassi, Kalamaki, Alykes or even some of the beaches where the turtles Caretta caretta lay their eggs.

For family holidays the best destination is Corfu, which combines a beautiful and safe island, with many activities for children and warm beaches where the sea deepens slowly and the water is shallow. The following is the Delos with its rich history and then of course the Mykonos. Is it possible that this much talked about island was not in the top 5 of the list? Mykonos is probably the most famous island in the Cyclades, if not in Greece. The island of celebrities and winds is a popular destination for cosmopolitan holidays.

If you are one of those tourists who consider food a pleasure and not a necessity, you need a holiday in Crete. According to the aforementioned article, Crete takes the lead in terms of gastronomy. Of course, those who have visited it know that it is an island that combines everything.

Next is Koufonisia, which wins the national award for its peace and tranquility. Tinos, which makes the list as the island with the most special, different and “alien” landscapes. Andros, for those who love walking and strolling. Symi for couples and Skyros for a healthy mind. Karpathos stands out for its unique tradition and Santorini for its unparalleled natural beauty, the magnificent sunset, the volcano with its impressive caldera and the unique view of the Aegean Sea. Next comes Rhodes which, as the Daily Telegraph writer comments, is for the nightlife it offers and Lefkada for its water sports.
Finally, the list includes the quieter and calmer Skopelos, which apart from its villas and admirable monasteries, everyone knows it from the movie Mamma Mia.

On the other hand, another British newspaper, the Sunday Times, in a feature on the Greek islands, suggested as first choices Folegandros, Antiparos, Paxos, Kos, Ithaca, Samos, Sifnos and Alonissos. The list also included Lefkada, Symi and Rhodes as well as the Daily Telegraph.

To be honest, if I were making these lists, I might add some islands and remove others. Where are you going on holiday?
