Roles of Change and Innovation in a Hair Salon

Many people wonder what the roles of Change and Innovation are in a salon.
In this article we will analyse them exactly.

Our Professional Personality

Each and every one of us has a different professional personality.
Professional personality is the set of our character preferences in relation to how we choose
communicate, make decisions, evaluate the events around us, and behave.
For example, some people prefer to organise their time in great detail, while others prefer to organise their time
leave room to adapt more easily to the flow of events.
Some people prefer to think long before making a decision, while others prefer quick and immediate solutions.
The diversity of personalities within a group is also what helps in assigning roles.
Roles should be assigned according to the personality of each team member.
That is, to suit the strengths and preferences of each individual.

The Thinkers

They contribute by proposing new and different ways of working.
They like to work with complexity and love innovation. They bring ideas to the table and they like it
to listen to other people’s ideas.
So they are very good at “seeing” opportunities and have a good instinct for spotting good ideas.
Thinkers are oriented towards the future.
They like to discuss and look for ideas and solutions that will make their work competitive and innovative.
It is not necessary that they will carry out the ideas they have.

The Assessors

They test ideas and proposals looking for disadvantages and risks.
They carefully analyse each new practice and evaluate it.
They are sensible and don’t take too much risk. They pay attention to detail.
They are cautious and sceptical, but are willing to discuss and exchange views.
If, for example, the Thinkers suggest new ideas for a colour technique or a new product
it is the role of the Assessors to judge and study whether the change will be of benefit to the salon.
Some Thinkers can support the role of the Assessor but some cannot do so very effectively.

The Developers

They emphasise the realisation of new ideas and proposals.
They think about and organise the adaptation of new practices to existing ones.
They are looking for ways in which they can apply new ideas to the workplace.
They are organized and concerned with the details of a new application and how it can be customized.
Thinkers and Evaluators will not necessarily be able to take on the role of the Developer.
A clear example is hairdressers attending a training course on fashion trends,
who, while they may get excited during the observation, find it difficult in the following days
to apply what they saw in the daily life of the salon.

Because of the particular professional personality that each and every one of us has, we are as individuals
quite inadequate in relation to our abilities.
So we don’t have the ability to take on all the roles that exist in a team and
to serve them at a high level.
We can only take on roles that are compatible with our personality.
For example, an introverted person cannot take on the role of the Networker or a practical person and
a little conservative cannot assume the role of the Thinker who is always thinking about innovation and change.
So the team with the different personalities it contains completes us
where we on an individual level cannot contribute.
It is only through the team that we gain maximum strength.
