Extension of lockdown. Don’t we open in early March?

The increased outbreaks of the last few days are enough for the lockdown to continue, even in its current form! The new mutation, a mix of two variants of coronavirus that has emerged, is of great concern!!!! When, will retail and hair salons, barbershops open? Not this Monday.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, among other things, said that yesterday’s sharp increase in cases of coronavirus removes the intention to gradually open on 1 March. And instead of things getting better…. from tomorrow Nafplio and Arcadia, also in strict lockdown!

“We saw yesterday a sharp increase in cases, especially in Attica, which de facto removes our intention, always listening to the instructions of the experts, to proceed to a gradual opening on March 1,” said Mr. Mitsotakis, noting as very positive news the rapid progress in the vaccination process and that we are approaching the end of this great adventure, but clarifying that this should not reassure us but that we should bear in mind that no wall of immunity has yet been built and that the vaccination process is not yet completed. the months of February and March are very difficult months for all respiratory infections.

Despite the lockdown we are in, the increase in cases is evident.
According to Ms. Antonia Koutsoukou, Professor of Pulmonology in the intensive care unit of Sotiria Hospital, does not know if the increase in cases is an indication in itself, because when more tests are done, it is logical to find more cases.

“Yes there are outbreaks among us. We know it” admitted Mrs. Koutsoukou, adding that although we have a lockdown, no one would call it a lockdown since we see traffic on the streets. “Everyone is out. The only ones who suffer are the professionals who are closed. There is therefore no obvious way to contain the pandemic. We may be dealing with mutations of the virus becoming more contagious or more aggressive and, on the other hand, the vaccination programme has not progressed satisfactorily. We are still living the nightmare” she said, continuing that she sympathizes with the rest of the people and members of this society and she herself wants us to become “normal people” as she described it and return to at least partial normality. But it seems that this cannot be done and it is not a matter for intensivists but for epidemiologists.
