Ammonia in hairdressing
-What is ammonia?
Ammonia is known to be a colourless gas with a characteristic strong odour.
It consists of hydrogen and nitrogen.
It is the basic raw material for the production of a large number of substances in cosmetology, medicine and household products.
In fact, we find it in trace amounts in the atmosphere and in rainwater!
It is noteworthy that almost all fruit, vegetables and pulses, as well as many drinks and juices, undergo at least one cooling process using ammonia before they reach our homes.
At the same time, it is used for air conditioning in hospitals, public buildings, airports and hotels.
Finally, today ammonia is widely used in the chemical industry.
But, where do we find ammonia in hairdressing?
-In hair dyes
What is it doing inside the hair dyes?
Ammonia in hairdressing creates the alkaline environment required for the oxidation reaction in the dyeing process.
In particular, while the hair has a slightly acidic PH, ammonia with an alkaline PH of around 11 helps to open the scales of the hair and allow the dye molecules to penetrate deep into the hair.
That is why it is very important after the dyeing service to wash with acidic shampoo in order to restore the PH balance of the hair.
Thus, we achieve the desired color effect! So to be!
-Is it safe to use hair dyes with ammonia?
Yes, it is!
In particular, the amount of ammonia contained in dyes is safe and too low to pose a risk to human health.
-Is it in the perm?
Ammonia is one of the ingredients in permafrost lotion.
Indeed, it creates an alkaline environment and because of this it helps the lotion to penetrate the hair better.
Goodbye straight hair, welcome curls!!! So to be!!!
-Hair coloring
Ammonia helps to discolor the hair ( decolorization – decapage ).
In particular, its salts affect melanin as the chemical process of discoloration proceeds.
And what is the result?
Blond, sexy, dazzling hair that catches the eye!! So to be!!!!
It is true that the ammonia molecule is very small and evaporates very quickly in the air.
However, we should be careful because in large quantities it is toxic.
At the same time, however, its strong smell gives it the property of self-alertness.
As we work over a head it alerts us with its strong smell to move our face away from it.
Besides, social distance is very fashionable lately…
To sum up, we can see that ammonia in hairdressing is essential and with its proper use by professional hairdressers it can elevate the final result!
