What if your name is not Katerina today November 25 is a day that “celebrates” every woman!
It is no coincidence that today is a name day celebrated by a large percentage of women,
but this day is dedicated to women and for another very important reason,
as it is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women,
which makes this day even more important!
In a country where physical and psychological violence against women has grown enormously in recent years,
the statistics are shocking and the message remains the same: “Break your silence”!
1 in 3 women worldwide have been victims of physical or sexual violence by their partner.
This is a shocking number when one considers the murders of women by their husbands-partners.
The form of abuse is not one!
It may be that when you hear the phrase “Violence against women”, your mind runs to physical violence in a house between husband and wife.
In reality, however, this is yet another form and unfortunately not the only one, as there are other equally “painful” ones.
Some of them are human trafficking, sexual abuse and even sexual abuse and some are
and the marriage of many girls at a young age, which used to be done by the method of concubinage,
but there are still as many as 650 million women and girls who are still alive,
were forced to marry before their 18th birthday, according to research that has been done.
Female infanticide
This term may not yet be accepted by a part of society, but with the numbers growing,
I think the big bet now is not to dwell on the word, but on the root, to understand and eliminate it.
It has to get into everyone’s minds that these are not just numbers, but people who have lost their lives,
some have left behind minor or no children and some a life they never got to live,
because the man they chose to put into their lives became the cause of their loss!
Almost 3 out of 5 women died at the hands of their partners or husbands in 2017 alone, worldwide.
And somewhere here is the second goal, to eliminate the conclusion-question “well, why didn’t he leave”?
Unfair, isn’t it?
There are thousands of answers to that question, either because he didn’t realize he was in that position, or because fear was the dominant factor,
but we will not stop there as, among the victims are women who found the strength to leave
and somewhere in here we have to add the need to protect these women,
who put the message of the day into practice and “break their silence”.
Are these figures the only worrying ones?
The answer is clear and it is, no!
The sexual abuse mentioned above also has a deafening number behind it.
45%-55% of women have experienced sexual harassment from the age of 15 and above in EU countries.
15 million girls aged 15-19 years worldwide have been raped at some point in their lives.
These numbers, although huge, must become the banner of a revolution that will put a brake on all forms of violence.
Today is simply a day of awakening to remember every day the importance of this struggle that every human being is fighting,
and any parent who will teach his son to respect “no” and what women
and his daughter that she should not be afraid to dress as she pleases, to go out alone at night
or leaving the moment the transformation of companionship into tolerance of any behavior begins!
The Aeolian floodgates have opened!
Yours sincerely,
