History of hair and the changes that prevailed
Over the last century, hair has seen many changes and different looks, some certainly better than others.
The history of hair goes back a long time, but let’s look at some changes in trends from the 1920s onwards.
From the shag to the wolf cut we will see the evolution in hair trends over the years.
The bob was a revolutionary piece of the decade, where it was worn a lot.
Some would glue the hair into a wet vague and others would do intense curls.
In long hair the low and sticky braid prevailed
and of course for accessories they always had amazing hats, bright ribbons and turbans.
1930s wavy, baby
According to the history of hair, this decade in the United States the increase by 800% in salons and salons
beauty salons were huge.
What made a big splash back then?
But of course the wavy hair.
Anything to do with waves, either wet or dry was the trend of the time.
The so-called vague.
To achieve this style they used many kinds of techniques such as, in wet with the finger,
special heat shears, as well as chemical techniques such as perming.
Of course, even nowadays we still use all these techniques as they have all returned to the background.
1940s Victory rolls
As the years go by our hair history goes to longer hair.
Women liked their curls to be big.
The Victory roll became an iconic style during the World War II era.
To achieve this look, the hair is rolled upwards and pinned into voluminous rollers.
It’s a trend that nowadays they do it with different variations especially in the fringe.
1950s /1960s Revolution
Finally!!!! The ponytail became part of the popular culture of the time, thanks to the French star of the time, Brigitte Bardot.
As hair has continued to be more expressive, we see that the history of hair repeats itself in our days,
even to men with the pompadour style where Travolta then brought the fashion to men.
Wigs were very fashionable at that time as they discovered hair braids shortly afterwards where they sewed them on their heads.
In the 1960s there is no doubt that the hair trend was influenced by politics.
The afro hair, the pigtails, and even the jeans made them a symbol of black pride and resistance to beauty standards.
1970s to 1990s
These decades have now come back into the spotlight, trends from the 70’s such as hair volumes are now back in the spotlight,
strongly filleted hair, as the main inspiration was the iconic hairstyles of Farrah Fawcett, Diana Ross.
The haircuts and their respective hairstyles, exude a rock and disco mood.
The 90’s are back, the music scene and cinema have a major influence on fashion.
Uma Thurman as well as super model Linda Evangelista bring the bob back into the spotlight.
Approaching the close of one century and the beginning of a new one, we see the liberation of fashion in both clothes and hair.
Hair history is repeated through the ages with many influences from each decade.
Bold tips, beautiful colours and fringed curtains are the order of the day this season.
In general, however, beauty and fashion in clothes and hair today seems to be in confusion.
We have borrowed looks from all eras.
The good thing about this is that hair fashion generally depending on the season is recycled.
What decade are you from?
With love,
