Celebrations at the Hairdresser’s
The salon is the place every woman visits to feel beautiful, unique and renewed! Even more so during the festive days of Christmas, because the glamour is added to its appearance!
Ilion 1990
Indeed, ever since I can remember myself spending the eve of the Christmas holidays at the hairdresser’s…
At that time the hairdressers were in great demand for festive hairstyles! The festive opening hours are 6 in the morning to 11 at night.
I, at the salon, had the main role of a general assistant! For example, I vacuumed, bathed, rolled and did public relations with the clients who visited my mother’s salon.
I also went for cigarettes and magazines and heard stories about where they were having a holiday party.
So, I was finding out who they have invited, who they’ve been invited to and which nightclub they’re going to change for the year…
The ladies would open the door and hold a foil of handmade sweets! They were bringing them to treat us! In addition, we might be given an Onion for luck and good business.
The Christmas spirit was always present
Always, the Christmas spirit was present and the atmosphere was joyful!
We were dressed in our holiday attire, we had a hairstyle that was always accompanied by a sparkling accessory.
Either way, the visit to the salon was the start of a highly successful look for the holidays.
An appearance that would leave a mark and would be immortalized in the Christmas photo.
The job I have chosen is a blessing…
I have said it before and I will always say it that the job I have chosen is a blessing…
The expectation of our client who visits the salon, not only during the holidays, is beauty! But through this relationship, hairdresser-client, many emotions arise! Exchange of views and experiences, culinary recipes, decorative suggestions and much more!
I want to share with you a story from those years in the 90s
I will reveal to you that during the holidays I am not preparing to go anywhere because fatigue always hits the red light…
I want to share with you a story from those years in the 1990s:
Every year on the eve of the holidays, we were visited by an extraordinary lady from Andros, who had a tavern on the island and spent the festive days in Athens.
As you can understand, the holidays were the only time she was given the opportunity to rest and take a vacation. Usually, we used to start our conversation by discussing how the summer season was and how it will be during these days…
The awesome thing she used to tell me every year on New Year’s Eve (around 10:00 pm, it was one of the last dates), that she had just prepared the bechamel for the pastitsio she would serve at dinner! Just before the arrival of the New Year!!!!
My hunger, every year indescribable, overwhelmed me! At the same time, the same image in the cloud that was above my head!
An electric stove with the door ajar and the pan with the pastitsio steaming, still haunts me today!!!
All this belongs to years of carefree…
All this belongs to the carefree years, when the intense fluff, the stylized bun and the crepe were prevalent…
I don’t want to bore you with any more of the old stuff…
I’ll just dwell on the greatness of taking and giving joy, love!
On top of that, all those sweet feelings that my work fills me with despite the fatigue, hunger and hours that all hairdressers know all too well that we go through!
I wish from the bottom of my heart that we continue in 2022 to hope for better days, to evolve professionally and personally and to give smiles and love to the people around us…after all, those who approach us come to teach us a lesson!
Happy Years-Happy Birthday
Sissy Visvardi.
