The General Regional Police Directorate of Central Macedonia informs about incidents of deception of citizens by sending electronic messages. Just in the last 24 hours, four citizens were deceived in Central Macedonia, through a similar e-mail message they received from a bank and were defrauded of a total of over 8,000 euros.
In an announcement of the police department it is noted that fraudsters apply the method of electronic capture of personal data “phishing” and in e-mails sent to citizens, they urge them to click on a link (link) with various pretexts, such as updating data, account security, etc.
This link leads to a fake website that resembles those of banks. They then ask for personal details, bank card numbers and bank account codes (username and password), which the perpetrators intercept as soon as they are filled in by citizens.
Using this method, they gain access to citizens’ bank accounts and immediately withdraw funds.
The police urge people who receive similar messages not to select the suggested links and not to reply to the messages, not to enter or send personal and credit card details.
