DIY: Chocolate can be beneficial for your skin!

The health benefits of dark chocolate are well known. Its use, however, as a facial product can, in addition, give you a healthy, glowing and flawless skin. This is because dark chocolate contains catechins, polyphenols and flavanols. These organic compounds make the much-loved chocolate a powerful antioxidant. Specifically, dark chocolates are produced from cocoa seed extracts that are considered super foods for their antioxidant activity.

Here are two DIY face masks with chocolate as a key ingredient.

1. Chocolate face mask for oily and acne-prone skin

What you will need:

  • 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder (unsweetened)
  • 1 pinch of cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon of honey (preferably organic)

What to do:

In a bowl, mix the cocoa powder with the honey and cinnamon. Make a paste. If the paste is too thick, add more honey. Apply the mixture to your face and neck. Let it sit for 20-30 minutes and then rinse.

How often should you apply the mask?

Twice a week is enough to see results.

Why does it work?

Chocolate and honey have antioxidant properties that kill acne-causing bacteria without drying out your skin.

2. Face mask “Dark Chocolate”

What you will need:

  • 2 bars of dark chocolate (use chocolate with at least 70% cocoa)
  • ⅔ cup of milk
  • 1 teaspoon of sea salt
  • 3 tablespoons of brown sugar

What to do:

Melt the chocolate in a bowl. Add the salt, sugar and milk to the mixture and mix well. Allow the product to cool and then apply it to your face and neck. Leave the mask on for 15-20 minutes and then rinse with water.

How often should you do the mask?

Twice a week.
