While doing my hair, I was left “bald” … and that’s where I woke up!

I can’t take it anymore, the quarantine is getting on my nerves. Trying to cheer myself up, I had the bright idea to make my own hair changes. I thought about all the hairdressers I know, all the texts from hair experts I read every day and all the youtube videos I watch… is it possible that I can’t manage to create a beautiful change in my outer look? At first I wanted to do bangs, I separated the strands I wanted to cut, looked at myself in the mirror, and voila, I cut them. I want the change to be substantial and visible. I’ve read that noses and kissing can give volume and movement to the hair. So I want noses too. I opened the computer, found a video on how to cut your hair yourself and worked my magic. Oh, the result is ugly. But that’s probably because I haven’t combed them yet. But until I get to that point, I still have work to do.
In order to show my renewal, I need to change the colour a little bit. I went to the supermarket and bought a dye that had a picture of a beautiful girl and the exact hair I want to have. Luckily it has instructions inside the box so I did exactly what I read…. I got my hair cut, dyed and combed my hair….3,2,1 I look in the mirror. Why;;;;;
S.O.S. I’m like the gold-leafed monster!!!! My good hairdresser, why did my bangs get cut higher than I had anticipated? Why instead of being cut evenly, on the side they are shorter? Why did the color come out so orange instead of auburn? Why can’t I find my hat? Why are they opening us up now by ending the quarantine that I need at least six months to be able to make an appearance in the world?;?

I woke up… it’s April1 and on this day it is customary to tell well-meaning lies by custom! Luckily my hair is exactly as my hairdresser made it!!!

April Fools’ Day lies are a custom that has come to us from Europe. I think most of us know it, but who knows its history and why it was created?
The most common versions are the following.

A) The custom originated with a people of northwestern Europe, the Celts, who were skilled fishermen. Fishing season started on April 1, but no matter how good the fishermen were, this time of year fish were hard to catch. So they too, as the “code of conduct” of fishermen of all times commands, lied about how many fish they had caught. A habit that with the passage of time… became a custom!

B) A more historically correct version, which considers this particular custom of the day to come from 16th century France. Specifically, until 1564, the French New Year’s Day was April 1. In this year, however, and during the reign of Charles 9th, this was changed and New Year’s Day was now considered to be January 1st. At first, not all citizens accepted this. The reactionaries continued to celebrate their old New Year’s Day on April 1, while the others sent them New Year’s presents to mock them. Over time, this experiment turned into the custom we know.

Slowly and steadily we have learned that here in Greece. Of course, without changing the original idea, we Greeks could not help but “fix” it a bit to our own specifications. The purpose of the custom in Greece is, by telling little innocent lies, to fool our “victim”.
Some say that if we make it, we’ll be lucky all next year.
In some other cases, they believe that the “abuser” will have a good harvest on his crops. Also the rainwater of the April Fool’s Day, some people believe that it has healing properties. As for the “victim”, it is believed that, unlike the “abuser”, he will have bad luck the rest of the year and probably if he is married he will be widowed quickly.

Have you guys thought about the little lies you’re going to tell because of the day? Please do not take advantage of this particular custom to make fun of people. I’m all for custom, up to the point of cute play. Did you believe me? Will I be lucky the rest of the year???
