“She’s a hairdresser… not a scientist”

I knew from the time I was combing, cutting or dyeing the hair of my dolls with a marker that my mom would not like it if I announced that I wanted to work with hair, in other words, to become a hairdresser. Many times I had heard her talk proudly that her daughter, that is me, is brilliant, will study, will become a doctor, a lawyer, a philosopher, or generally some kind of scientist. And finally? Bad fate or good fate brought things this way and I became a hairdresser.
When I would announce it to friends and acquaintances, I felt like they would look at me with a “too bad your mom told us you were going to be a cardiologist” look !!!! Kids…. do you know what a misunderstood profession the precious hairdresser is and how much she does besides dealing with hair?

A hairdresser, a hairdresser in principle has to be creative, even when he is tired mentally or practically tired from standing and his general routine. You have to have knowledge of the subject and imagination to be able to create something beautiful from scratch. And we’re not just talking about a creation on a white canvas, but it requires him to know what suits each different canvas – person, human being, personality – that he sees in front of him.

“Come on, she’s a hairdresser, she’s not a scientist” I’ve heard people say, which is true how much?

Becoming a hairdresser requires a practical and creative mind at the same time. You’re dealing with chemistry, colorimetry, proper diagnosis. You need to know different cutting techniques, colour, texture, structure and have full control and knowledge of what products you use.
This alone dispels the myth that hairdressers are not educated, since this can no longer be possible as it may have been in the past when clients were satisfied with the basics. Apart from hairdressing knowledge, however, a hairdresser is required to be a psychologist, since during a client’s visit, the conversation most of the times goes beyond hair and becomes completely friendly and personal. I guess whether you’re an experienced hairdresser or you’re still a beginner, you know all this first hand.

How many times have you been unwell about a personal issue and yet you had to look smiling, with an unsurpassed acting , that everything is beautiful? Hairdresser, hairdresser is not only that perhaps once considered.

A hairdresser should ….

A hairdresser initially needs to know what suits you according to your face and your routine. But what he will tell you he must not do without your agreement. A hairdresser should listen to you. You want this? This will be done.

But on the other hand, if what you want doesn’t suit you or will ruin your hair, he has to say so, having a proper communication with you.

And apart from what doesn’t suit you, a good hairdresser should always keep you informed about what she’s doing with your hair so that you’re not stressed about the result at any moment. From the moment the client is in the salon she should feel comfortable and have a positive mood especially during your appointment and when she leaves. I’m sure you know how to make a client feel comfortable enough to think positively of you that they will want to come back again both because they will have a good time and because they will become more beautiful. Be excited every time you have a date.

Unfortunately, this is not always possible and easy. When you see that your client is not in the mood you have to figure out if she wants complete silence or if you can cheer her up.

We said it above. The right hairdresser, hairdresser must be above all a friend.

The question after all that a hairdresser finally does is. Can you be one?
