The hairdresser’s is synonymous with beauty, renewed mood and good looks! But what about clients who are experiencing the miracle of nature, pregnancy? Because the psychology of the expectant mother plays an important role in the development of the fetus and pregnant women want to feel well-groomed, beautiful and fashionable.
What possibilities do we, as professional hairdressers, have to create dye in the hair of the expectant mother without affecting the fetus?
The initial advice is to take instructions from your doctor, as the first trimester of pregnancy is the most important and sensitive. The embryo develops rapidly, building up the nervous system and all its vital organs. For this reason, the application of hair dye is recommended after the 12th week.
In the second and third trimesters of pregnancy it is best to visit the salon to cover your whites, refresh your colour or make a small change in your appearance.
In the salon what options do we have for hair color? We, the professional hairdressers have options depending on the needs and wishes of the expectant mother.
We start with the 100% vegan dye , which consists of 3 powders of natural origin and mixed with water. It promises shine and make-up of white hair. The next tier is the ammonia-free, low-oxidant color emulsion that promises up to 80% coverage of white hair, toning of existing shades and shine to the hair. Another option is the ammonia-free, odorless oxidative dye that covers all hair needs. But you , as professionals, what do you suggest as the best way to cover whites, root or even to freshen up our color?
What I suggest, feeling safe for my pregnant client, is a alternative method of hair dyeing that does not start from the root, i.e. we apply the product without touching the scalp. If you want to reduce the smell even more , there is also the option to use foil or film to isolate the paint spots. Another option is the highlights or the ballet which, as a matter of fact, do not exactly start from the root. These options are designed to leave a small distance to prevent the chemicals from coming into contact with the skin of the pregnant or breastfeeding mother.
Finally, the result is that the dye is absorbed by the hair and not by the skin.
From a personal point of view, I would advise expectant mothers…
To live this period of creation to the fullest,
Avoid experimentation at home,
They should consult their doctor first and then their hairdresser,
Avoid loud technical work and odours from dyes,
Seek solutions that are milder and at the same time more effective than the experts.
At the salon we also offer other treatments such as changing the cut, styling and a wide variety of treatments that will stimulate and strengthen the already strong hair of the pregnant woman and make her feel next to happy to welcome the miracle of life.
