Social Hair Salon of the Municipality of Athens: 85 volunteer hairdressers gave care to more than 700 citizens!
Event “call” to the hairdressing community by the Centre for Reception and Solidarity of the Municipality of Athens (K.Y.A.A.D.A.).

Athens,1 December.
With an event dedicated to volunteer hairdressers and the hairdressing community, celebrated the

Reception and Solidarity Centre of the Municipality of Athens (K.Y.A.A.D.A.)
Social Hair Salon of the Municipality of Athens created with the kind support of the
L’Oréal Hellas Professional Products Division (L’Oréal Professional Products).

Highlighting the value of volunteering and its benefits to society, but also with the aim of helping supporters of the first
exclusively volunteer structure of the organization to get to know each other better, presented the report of the actions
of the Social Commissary and the highlights of its journey.

In particular, in the first year 900 appointments were made and 740 citizens were served by 85 professional hairdressers
who offered pro bono grooming services.
Groups of volunteer hairdressers visited shelters for the elderly and homeless in the city
(Multipurpose Center for the Homeless, Athens Home, Athens Nursing Home), while the following were established
the days of community service for citizens living in shelters.
At the same time, new partnerships were developed with organisations supporting vulnerable groups,
giving them access to basic care services.

Statements

“The Social Hair Salon opened the door of care to every citizen as a complementary step in our actions to mitigate inequalities and social reintegration. The participation of the volunteers, their enthusiasm and their talent were elements that broadened
its actions and helped us to create a “model” participatory structure, adopted as good practice by the
Municipality of Chania and we will be happy to see it develop in other cities in Greece.”
said Melina Daskalaki, President of the Reception and Solidarity Centre of the Municipality of Athens ,
expressing her gratitude to the volunteer hairdressers who gave
smiles and self-confidence to every person who crossed the threshold of the Social Hairdresser’s Shop.

The General Manager of the Professional Products Division of L’Oréal Hellas, Maria Korali stressed that:
“For a year now, the Social Hairdresser of the Municipality of Athens has been generously offering care and love to our fellow human beings
who really need it, regardless of their socio-economic background. Thank you to all the volunteer hairdressers,
from every corner of Greece, who dedicated their time and their art to these people. We are proud as a company to support this initiative that highlights the magical touch of the hairdresser and the power he or she has to transform hair.

and is expanding to other cities such as Chania, always on the initiative of hairdressers who want to offer”.

The event was honoured with the presence of Deputy Mayor of Social Solidarity & Civil Society, Ms. Katerina Gagaki
and the President of the Association of Industries & Representatives of the Cosmetics Association (PSBAK), Mr. Theodoros Yarmmenitis.

The event concluded with the screening of a video by the Social Hairdresser of the Municipality of Chania and with a call
to all professional hairdressers to become participants in its work, thus continuing to offer solidarity,
joy and care to citizens in need.

The Social Hairdresser operates within the Citizens’ Mutual Aid Centre (2 Domokou and Filadelfia).
