A legislative provision of the Ministry of Finance extends the deadline for submission of tax returns until 10 September and the payment of the first two monthly instalments (July and August) of the tax due until 17 September.
The extension was deemed necessary, due to the special circumstances prevailing, but also to facilitate taxpayers, accountants and tax advisors, exhausting any time extension, given the upcoming issuance of the ENFIA statements within the month of September.
It should be noted that in order to receive a 3% discount on the total amount of tax due resulting from the tax return, individuals must submit their return by 27 August and pay the tax in a lump sum by 31 August.
“The Government, fully aware of the reality, the needs and the specificities of society, intervenes where necessary to support and facilitate citizens,” Deputy Minister of Finance Mr. Apostolos Vesyropoulos.
At the same time, it is stressed that for 70% of the tax returns cleared to date, no tax has been paid. In particular, for the majority of these returns the resulting tax is zero, while a significant number of taxpayers receive a tax refund.
This development is also due to tax measures taken by the government, such as the implementation of the new tax scale with reduced rates, the suspension of the presumption of living, as well as the special solidarity contribution for private sector income.
The government, as SKAI notes, continues to pursue a tax policy with a social and developmental bias.
