Comfort zone – a phrase we all know. Or the comfort zone. We often hear that in order to achieve something in life, we need to get out of this zone.
But is it so?
Or do we instead achieve things in life to create a new comfort zone?
Let’s see them one by one!
What does “comfort zone” really mean?
Simply put, the comfort zone means when we live and function in a familiar environment with familiar behaviours and situations that do not cause us much stress. We feel psychological peace and security. And so it doesn’t push us to change anything.
But… I have the following question for you…
How realistic is this comfort zone?
However familiar our environment may be, we do not know for sure how even the situations we are familiar with will turn out. Think about it. For example, when someone calls you on the phone or when you go to a meeting, you don’t know what to expect! So do we step out of our comfort zone more often than we think?
Is it wrong to stay in our comfort zone?
No, it’s not bad. There is a reason why the mind and body seek this peace. And it is precisely because we cannot live with stress all the time!
So should I go out for a while and come back in?
Every change is associated with an anxiety about the unknown. With anxiety about whether our choices are right, etc.
Consider this:
- Why are you making this change?
- What do you want to achieve in the end?
- How will your environment change and how will you feel in it?
- How long will this change last?
From comfort to comfort… but at a higher level!
For me the comfort zone is something like the career ladder. That is, with each change you simply change the levels, aiming to go higher each time!
What’s your take on the comfort zone?
With love,
Natalia
